Imagine having to flee a domestic violence situation with your best friend, only to face the impossible choice between sleeping beside them on the streets or without them in crisis accommodation.
Nobody wants to leave their pets behind, but for many people experiencing homelessness, it's often a heartbreaking reality. In these situations, foster carers are a lifeline for people desperate to be reunited with their animal companions.
Keeping people and their pets together is at the heart of what we do at Pets of the Homeless. We currently offer emergency boarding for pets in need, but it's only a short-term solution. The natural next step is our very own foster care program to provide longer term care options for pets that are temporarily unable to stay with their people.
Our brand new foster care program is set to launch in Victoria in 2018.
We're currently in the planning phase and searching for an experienced, dedicated and super organised volunteer to help with the planning and coordination the Pets of the Homeless foster care program. Could it be YOU? Click here to find out more.
We'll also be on the lookout for potential foster carers closer to the launch date so if you're interested in joining us, keep checking these monthly newsletters to stay in the loop.
