1st Birthday of the Colac Community Meals Program

Coordinators Andrew Edgar and Beverley Rimmer celebrated the first birthday of the Community Meals Program on Friday night.
Over fifty community members came together to share the wonderful food and a birthday cake in a party atmosphere at the Colac Neighbourhood House.
"It's been a huge community effort to get to this point." Said Andrew. "Without the support of our team of volunteers Eileen Craig and Ian and Sandra Lumley and organisations like Rotary, Colac Area Health, Bulla, Otway Fresh Pasta, GMHBA, View Club, the committee of the White Ribbon Ball, St Laurence and Future Café we could never have been able to provide all these fabulous free meals every Friday night. It's a real example of community working together to support each other. Last year we were recognised as Mental Health Community Champions during Mental Health Week which promotes inclusion and belonging as tools for better mental health and that’s exactly what we strive for. "
"There is no booking system, everyone is welcome and Andrew and I have loved watching the friendships that have been made and the joy that the children get from the library and computers as well as the chance to try out lots of different flavours and foods. It's become one of the highlights of our week and we hope it will continue as successfully in its new format of being held on the last Friday of each month." Beverley said.
